For this excercise I first decided to walk down the street I normally take to classes, but going the opposite direction. That was my first rule. As I moved forward I decided to make my next rule, to follow the path of fallen leaves along the path. I wanted to crush as many leaves under my shoes as possible so I found myself going following the side walks and paths that had the most leaves. I ended up at Fort Green park for this. It was really fun as I went, allowing myself to just walk and crush the leaves reminded me of when I was younger during the fall. But of course in typical New York City fashion, it started to rain. The rain threw me off and made the leaves less fun to crush, so I decided to creat a new rule. My next rule was to follow anyone with a black puffer jacket, every time I would see a new person with one I changed my path and followed them. This was fun, but eventually I got bored and needed a new rule. I decided to turn left everytime I saw a bus stop. I didn't track exactly how long I followed this rule path, I walked for a while though until I noticed my feet hurting. Eventually I realized I had no idea where I was and it was beginning to get dark. This is when I decided to end my walk and head home. It was a really interesting experience, I think I walked for about an hour. I was alone and found myself thinking and talking to myself for a lot of the walk. My music also gave me a fun rythm to the walk, at some points I found myself walking in rythm to the song playing in my headphones. WHat I found to be the most interesting part of the walk was the fact that I didn't spend a lot of time reflecting on what was happening around me. Rather I was very in my own head for the experiment. It was like the walk gave me a space for some needed me time, a lot of self reflection happened.
For the map that represented my walk I was confused at first on how I would portray it. I tried a few different methods that reflected an actual map typography. But none of them felt right to the experience. Finally I decided to show my map through a story based format, as an animation student this felt very natural to me. I think it reflects a lot of how the actual walk felt to me as I was on it.
